Principal’s Report at the 45th Anniversary Speech Day
Date: 04/12/2023
Guest of Honour Professor Ko, Supervisor Dr. Man, School Managers, Distinguished Guests, Parents, Teachers and Students, Good Afternoon.
It is our great honour to have Prof. Ko officiate here at our ceremony today. It is also a great occasion for all of us, especially graduates and students, to celebrate the contributions of our alumni to the community.
I’m so delighted to share the happiness of our 119 S.6 graduates today. These young men and women worked immensely hard and have now obtained brilliant results in the 2023 HKDSE Examination. Of the 14 subjects taken, the average subject pass rate was 99.4%. About 90% of our graduates received a Bachelor Degree offer through JUPAS. 53.4% of the offers were from The Chinese University of Hong Kong, The University of Hong Kong and The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all our teachers for their every effort in enhancing our students’ potential and encouraging them to aim high. At the same time, I’d like to congratulate our graduates for their great achievements in the past six years.
In 2022-2023, the school continued to offer many different learning opportunities to nurture our students as well-rounded students. In addition to local visits, some overseas exchange tours such as the London cultural tour, the S.5 Mainland tour, the Taichung basketball team training, and the Hangzhou cultural tour were arranged this year to broaden students’ horizons. To improve students’ well-being and promote their civic responsibility, more than 100 educational activities in line with the educational theme “Embrace the future and explore new possibilities with courage and joy” were organized last year. For more detailed information you may refer to the Education Schedule printed in the Speech Day Bulletin.
In 2022-2023, our students actively participated in various external competitions and obtained encouraging results in both academic and non-academic areas. S.6 students CHEUNG Hei Tsun Marcus and NG Yan Lam were awarded the Sir Edward Youde Memorial Prizes for their all-round development. LEI Cheuk Yin of S.3 and MAK Wing Yan of S.5 received the Hong Kong Island Outstanding Students Awards (Eastern District). Our students have also showcased their excellence in Mathematics and Science through their outstanding achievements in various local and regional competitions. Other than the many group and individual prizes obtained throughout the academic year, ZHOU Liwen of S.2 and CHAN Hoi Chi of S.4 were selected to represent Hong Kong at the International Mathematics Competition and the International Physics Olympiad respectively.
Our school sports teams also achieved outstanding results in the inter-school competitions last year. The Grade C Boys’ Table Tennis Team won the Championship and the Girls’ Team won the overall First Runner-up. The Athletics Team won the Championship in the Girls Grade C 4x400 m race and S.4 student Arina won the Championship in the Girls Grade A 200 m race. CHEN Ki Yan of S.2 won the Championship in the Girls Grade C 100 m Free Style in the Inter-School Swimming Competition 2022-2023. If you’d like to learn more about the wonderful achievements of our students please refer to the Annual Report and Speech Day Bulletin.
Our School Redevelopment Project continued last year. A temporary staircase was built and a new lift tower began construction. To facilitate the preparation for the demolition of the school hall, some school facilities were moved and the existing school entrance was moved to an alternate side of the campus. In late August 2023, the demolition of the school hall began and the work was completed within one month. We look forward to a brand-new education building in 2025.
In 2023, school life gradually resumed normality as the COVID-19 pandemic faded away. It was heartening to witness all your smiling faces and jubilant celebrations reappearing across campus. I trust that no matter what the difficulties, we can overcome anything with perseverance. So graduates, please do not give up when you face difficult situations. Know that you will succeed with the unwavering support from your parents, friends and teachers. I’m confident that you will leap over every hurdle and realise your future dreams. I wish you all the best.
Lastly, I would like to express our gratitude to Supervisor Ms. Kan and Principal Ms. Chung for providing us such a beautiful hall for our ceremony. Thank you very much. I wish you all an enjoyable afternoon. Thank you.
