Principal’s Report at the 40th Annual Speech Day

Date: 15/12/2022

Guest of Honour Miss Vivian Kong, Supervisor Ms. Lam, School Managers, Distinguished Guests, Parents, Teachers and Students, Good Afternoon.

It is our great honour to have Miss Kong officiate here at our ceremony today.

I’m glad to be with you all today to celebrate the graduation of 128 S.6 graduates. In the past three years, the COVID-19 pandemic has seriously affected students’ learning and school life.   Many lessons had to be conducted online and many school activities were postponed or even cancelled. However, our graduates showed their passion for learning and resilience amidst all these difficulties. They worked hard and got good results in the 2022 HKDSE Examination. Of the 14 subjects taken, the average subject pass rate was 99.3%. About 90% of our graduates received a Bachelor Degree offer through JUPAS. All these achievements were the results of the efforts of all our teachers and the endless hard work of our S.6 graduates.

In line with the School Mission, we aim to produce all-rounded students and nurture within them a strong sense of responsibility towards the community. More than 80 educational activities in line with the year’s theme “Grasping every opportunity with your enthusiasm and determination’ were held last year. For more detailed information you may refer to the Education Schedule printed in the Speech Day Bulletin.

In 2021-2022, our students actively participated in various external activities and competitions. With the support and training by our teachers, our students worked hard and obtained pleasing results in both academic and non-academic pursuits. S.6 students LI King Yeung and CHUNG Nga Man were awarded the Sir Edward Youde Memorial Prize for their all-round development.  TAM Tze Him, WAN Haibo, LAM Tsz Ning and CHUNG Ming Chun were honoured with the Eastern District Outstanding Students Awards. Our Mathematics School Team won many group and individual prizes in inter-school and regional Mathematics competitions such as the International Mathematical Olympiad, the MathConception 2022, Global Mathematics Elite Competition, etc. Our students won the championship in the STEM+E Competition 2022 and First Runner-up Flying Award in the Aerosim Inter-school Aviation Tournament. Teams of senior form BAFS students won the Championship in the 2021-2022 HKICPA Accounting and Business Management Case Competition 2021-22 and the Championship in the Personal Finance Literacy Competition 2022. If you’d like to learn more about the wonderful achievements of our students please refer to the Annual Report and Speech Day Bulletin.

The school continued to advance STEM education in 2021-2022. Many STEM-related learning activities were held such as the Aviation Learning Workshop, AI Workshop, Cloud Computing Program, Water Robot making, Drone programming, Python courses, Solar Observation Workshop, HKO Gamma Go Workshop, Career Experience in I.T. companies, etc.

Construction works for the School Redevelopment Project commenced in December 2021. Preliminary works including the new school entrance, lift tower and temporary steel staircase are in progress. Starting late December this year, the school hall will be closed for demolition works. To celebrate the kick-off of the construction works, the Donation and Groundbreaking Ceremony was held on 6th August, 2022. Over a hundred guests, patrons, current and former staff members, parents, alumni and students joined the event.

The COVID-19 pandemic limited our social activities and learning opportunities. But it cannot limit our desire to improve, and our ability to realise our aspirations. Graduates, I’m confident that you will continue to grasp every opportunity in the future and showcase your talent. If there is one thing the pandemic has taught us, it is to remain thankful even in difficult circumstances, and to never take what we have for granted. As you move into the next stage of your life, thank your parents, teachers and friends for their unwavering support for you during the past few years. And finally, remember that those who have walked with you will continue to walk with you through the ups and downs of the coming years, and we are so excited for what your future holds. I wish you all the best.

Thank you.
