Principal’s Report at the 42nd Annual Speech Day
日期: 23/11/2024
Guest of Honour Professor Chiu, Supervisor Dr. Man, School Managers, Distinguished Guests, Parents, Teachers and Students, Good Afternoon.
It is our great honour to have Prof. Chiu officiate here at our ceremony. Today, we gather to celebrate an incredible milestone achieved by our graduates. As I look out at all of our graduates, I am filled with pride. It is not only because of their excellent results in the public examinations and competitions. Most importantly, they demonstrate the spirit of perseverance and determination during the hard times in the past few years.
I’m so delighted to share in the happiness of our 136 S.6 graduates today. They have obtained brilliant results in the 2024 HKDSE Examination. Of the 14 subjects taken, the average subject pass rate was 99.9%. The average rate of Level 4 or above was higher than 80%. The best individual result was six Level 5** obtained by IU Chun Yi, one of the top HKDSE scorers in Hong Kong this year. 94.1% of our students received a Bachelor Degree offer through the JUPAS system and nearly half of the offers were from The Chinese University of Hong Kong, The University of Hong Kong and The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. I’d like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to our teachers for their every effort in helping and supporting our students at all times. At the same time, I’d like to congratulate all our graduates for their great achievements.
In 2023-2024, the school offered many different learning opportunities to nurture our students as all-rounded students. For example, five study tours were organized to broaden our students’ horizons and help them to learn more about Chinese culture and the latest developments in our motherland. The education theme for 2023-2024 was “Sailing Together and Celebrating Our Voyage to Greater Heights”. More than a hundred educational programmes and activities were held to enhance our students’ well-being and to promote a sense of obligation for being responsible citizens nationally and globally. For more detailed information you may refer to the Education Schedule printed in the Speech Day Bulletin.
In 2023-2024, our students actively participated in many inter-school competitions and obtained wonderful results in both academic and non-academic aspects. S.6 students MAK Wing Yan and SZE Wing Ki were awarded the Sir Edward Youde Memorial Prizes for their all-round development. KWOK Hang Kiu of S.3 and LAM Ho Ka of S.6 received the Hong Kong Island Outstanding Students Awards. XU Yuliang of S.2 and WANG Haibo of S.5 received The Greater Bay Area Outstanding Students Awards.
Our school’s Mathematics Team performed exceptionally well in 2023-2024 and won many great awards, including the Overall First Runner-up in the final of the 41st Hong Kong Mathematics Olympiad and the Overall First Runner-up in the MathConceptition 2024. In addition, they secured the Overall Champion in the Huaxiabei National Mathematics Olympic Invitation Competition 2024, and won both the Overall Champion and the Supreme School Award in the AIMO Hong Kong-Macau Cup 2024. On the other hand, five S.5 students won the First Runner-up in the Hong Kong Chemistry Olympiad for Secondary Schools (2023-2024). In addition, our talented students won many individual prizes in Physics and Chemistry competitions such as Hong Kong Physics Olympiad, Asian Physics Olympiad, Pan Pearl River Delta Physics Olympiad, and International Chemistry Quiz.
Our school sports teams also achieved outstanding results in inter-school competitions last year. Our Table Tennis Team (B Grade, Boys) won the Second Runner-up in inter-school competition and our Athletic Team won the Second Place in the Girls Grade C 4x400m Relay in Inter-School Athletics Competition 2023-2024 (Division 3, Area 4). They also won the Overall Third Runners-up in Girls Grade A group. If you’d like to learn more about the wonderful achievements of our students please refer to the Annual Report and Speech Day Bulletin.
The school, our architectural consultant, the construction contractors, the Education Bureau and other government departments continued to work closely on our school redevelopment project last year. The construction of the new lift tower and the installation of the lift machine were completed in 2023-2024. The foundation of the new hall building is under construction. We look forward to a brand-new education building in 2025.
Graduates, as you step into the world beyond these walls, you will enter a greater stage – a stage with no boundaries. Success will not be measured by examination scores any more, but it will be defined by you. While you are exploring your passions and shaping your future, I urge you to embrace every challenge as an opportunity and approach each new experience with an open mind and a willingness to learn. I’m confident that you will leap over every hurdle and realise your future dreams. I wish you all the best.
Lastly, I would like to express our gratitude to Supervisor Ms. Kan and Principal Ms. Chung again for providing us such a beautiful hall for the ceremony today. Thank you very much. I wish you all an enjoyable afternoon. Thank you.
